I created this blog to share stories and information about my maternal ancestors from Wilkes County, North Carolina. My mother, grandmother, and other relatives shared many family stories with me. As I recall these stories, I will share my journey to find the truth, as well as genealogy tips I learn.

Grandma’s Photo Album Page 40 - Snyder Family in Gloucester and Wilkes County
This page has photos of my grandparents' children. My grandparents were Wiley Thomas Snyder (1892-1988) and Nora Bessie McNeil (1900-1992). They were both born and died in Wilkes County, N.C.
(Top left) James Neil Snyder (1922-1993), my uncle, and two friends at the Gloucester monument.. I think Uncle Jimmy is the one on the right. He joined the Coast Guard in 1939, when he was 17. I always wondered how a boy from the mountains decided to join the Coast Guard. He made a career of it, so I guess he didn't get sea sick!
I think the other three photos were taken in Wilkes County, N.C., probably on my grandparent's farm in Millers Creek.
(Top right) Mozelle and Bette (both living).
(Lower left) Mozelle and my mother, Carrie Snyder (1926-2001).
(Lower right) Left to right: Mozelle, Carrie, Jimmy, Jimmy's wife Kay (living), Ralph Lewis Snyder (1932-1996), and Bette.
